Waited for weather to clear. It eased a bit, but was still raining. Crossed the Saddle to West Sabine. Found it very tough! So much down hill! I have blister under blister.

boot Start Nelson Lakes tramp. Walked in to LakeHead hut. Played cards and discussed trout fishing.

Went for a walk along Motueka sand-spit suncloud.

Nasty low heading for Nelson. It's my fault! - whenever I'm tramping it pours down, then when I'm between tracks (like yesterday) it's normally fine. Sorry NewZealand!

Did Washing. Bought backcountry hut pass $65. Updating blog. Chilling. Finally weather seems to be improving sun. Visited Macs Brewery.

EARLY start 6.30am. Bused back to Collingwood. Good to see car waiting there for me. Drove up to Whirinaki(?) Beach on West coast. Spent most of the day searching there. Visited Pu Pu Springs. Back to Nelson YHA. Slept in sheets - luxury!!!

Caught bus to Westport and Nelson. Staying at Club Nelson backpackers. Have to catch bus tomorrow morning to Collingwood.

Walked out, stayed the night at Karamea along with everyone else from the Heaphy Hut. Very nice group.

Drove to Collingwood, told rain was on the way and I needed to get into Kaurangi National Park before the fords rose, so spend the night up at Brown Hut. And it RAINED http://linuxsoftware.co.nz/smilie/rain.png!!!!

Road South cleared by lunch time.. Drove to Wellington via Palmy. Had coffee with rellies. Met my latest 2nd cos, Cala (sp?). Had dinner and a couple of beers with Ralph. Had a few more beers.

Massive storm hit the lower North Island. Trapped in Wanganui, all roads out blocked.

Still raining, decided to flag my summit attempt. Of course when I got down to the visitor centre the sun came out and it was a beautiful sunny day. Drove into Whanganui NP and did a day walk there instead.

Was "challenging", wormed my way up the track, big relief to get to down to Lake Dive hut... beautiful place!!! Had it all to myself.

Got soaked pushing thru overgrown tracks and tramping through mud. Shared hut with YMCA group and another Kiwi tramper.

[nz] Waitangi Day - commemorating the foundation of New Zealand and the treaty signed between Maori and British. Planning for Taranaki and South Island tramps. Comparing camp stoves. BBQ at Sue's.

Talked to Simon about buying a new camera. I want something light, fast, long battery life. Need to have a look at an A60.

Bought some maps in town. Went to Food Alley for lunch, ran into Don and Mark J there. Went for a walk up Karamatura valley.

Simon is installing Firebird, wants to know where Java is. Don't bother... there's nothing important which needs Java ;-). Try here.
